Three, Two, One… NaNo!

It’s almost November, and you know what that means? (No, not turkey. No, not Christmas shopping. And no, not colder weather. Well… yes, all of those, but that’s not what I’m talking about today.)

It’s almost time for NaNoWriMo (or National Novel Writing Month, for those of you slightly less nerdy).

What is NaNoWriMo? Basically, it’s a challenge: Can you write a 50,000-word novel in one month?

And, yes, it’s just as daunting as it sounds.

But that doesn’t stop writers from doing it. Last year, I epically failed. This year… this year, I have a plan. I’ve outlined a book, and I have my game face on.

But that does mean some changes will be coming to Word-Maleerie.

In short: Slightly less content. (To be real… I literally can’t write a 50,000-word novel, update my blog everyday, and have a full-time job. Believe it or not, I do need to do things like sleep and eat.)

I’ve been considering carefully what posts to put on hiatus, and it seems like the Stories, Poetry, and Photos and Musings posts are the most popular. Thoughts from an Unashamed Nerd, My Life as a Writing Reader (Or a Reading Writer?), and A Look Back, A Look Ahead vary in popularity. Conveniently, those are also the more difficult to write, as I have to come up with content. Creative writing has always come more easily, so those posts, which are more commentary-based, take more effort.

It’s a rather happy accident that those are also the least read. So it simply makes sense to take a break with those. I’ll also keep the Publishing Journey posts since, you know, that is the whole point of the blog. (And I’m sure it’ll be pretty entertaining to read my slow descent into insanity as I try to write a novel in a month.)

So, for now, here is the new schedule:

Monday: Stories

Tuesday: Poetry

Thursday: Photos and Musings

Friday: Publishing Journey

So here I am: One day between me and the annual writing challenge known simply as NaNoWriMo. I have a plan. I have tea. I have nice pens.

What else could a writer want?

Let’s do this thing!
